Behaviour modification is the therapeutic process of changing behaviour over the long term using various motivational techniques. It has the ultimate goal of replacing less desirable behaviours with more positive or desirable behaviours.
At Widad we use proactive behaviour modification and interventions, which avoid the use of negative consequences. We believe that to reduce an inappropriate behaviour, an appropriate behaviour must be taught. We use positive programming, where we teach the child new and appropriate skills.
Each child receives a comprehensive assessment during the first 21 days, which allows us to get to know each child. Following a team discussion with the family a treatment plan is put in place.
Forms of intervention are:
- Systematic teaching of social skills
- Social decision making /problem solving skills
- Decreasing undesirable behaviour
- Developing friendships (social interactions)
- Developing school skills like academic performance, classroom behaviour and peer relationship.
